Proper storage and maintenance of your electric razor are key to ensuring long-term performance and durability. Let’s dive into how we all manage our razors when they’re not in use and share tips for keeping them in top shape.

Here’s how I handle mine:

When I had my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc, I used its cleaning station whenever the razor needed to be charged, but I always cleaned it under running tap water after every shave to avoid buildup, which as you know from my other posts, wasn't very successful.

For my older Philips cord-only razors, I’ve always preferred hard cases for protection. Sadly, it seems like hard cases are almost impossible to find for newer models, which is a shame since they’re great for travel and long-term storage.

Recently, I’ve started lubricating my Remington Balder Pro head razor with unscented baby oil, and it works very well. It keeps the cutters running smoothly and adds an extra layer of protection after cleaning.

How about you?

Do you rely on cleaning stations, or do you prefer manual cleaning methods?

Have you found a good substitute for hard cases for newer razors?

What lubricants or maintenance products do you use, and have they made a noticeable difference?

Share your experiences, tips, and any challenges you’ve faced. Let’s help each other out with practical advice and keep our razors in excellent condition.

I’ve never owned a shaver that came with a cleaning station, I find them a bit superfluous considering how straightforward it is to clean most modern shavers. I did however enjoy the animations from commercials showing the cleaning station in operation, but this never tempted me to buy one.

Like you Jim, I rinse mine out after almost every shave and leave it open to dry. Once a month I will take the blades out and and swirl them in a jar of surgical spirit. After IPA cleaning I lubricate the cutters with baby oil to reduce friction and keep the mechanical parts moving efficiently.

In terms of storage, I use a case purchased from Amazon made from EVA material. This has held up well for normal storage and because it is a hard case it’s very robust and great for travel. There are numerous variations of this type of case available, but you really have to look at the dimensions to ensure a good fit for your particular shaver. This shape fits my Norelco 2000 very snug, but my Philips HQ6990 tends to rattle around in the case.

Perfect. I own two very similar cases, also bought from Amazon, for two of my Philips razors. And folks, I can't stress this enough. Lubrication is key. There's a huge benefit to lubricating the cutters of your electric razor. Listen to your razor when it is on without being lubricated, and then again after you have lubricated it. There is a noticeable difference in how it sounds.
